Freedom Fighters? Again?

I don't get DC's determination to use these Quality heroes as a group or not at all. What I need, I think, is a sprawling JLA/JSA/FF epic that will give me a reason to care who these people are.

Let's have Doll Man and the Atom learn how best to exploit being six inches tall. If Marvel Divas and Birds of Prey can work, then surely Phantom Lady, Jesse Quick and Big Barda can work up a little chemistry. Hawkman and Black Condor. The Ray and Captain Atom. Black Canary, the Red Bee and the Bulleteer (remember her?). Uncle Sam and the Phantom Stranger. (If, in fact, they're not actually the same person.)

DC has tons of characters in their closet in need of rehabilitation. I wonder what Batman and Robin and Knight and Squire would make of Mister Scarlet and Pinky.

Potential Disney Heroines

As Sam Nielson alludes, The Hunchback of Notre Dame as written is not exactly fertile ground for growing Disney princesses (Esmeralda dies, Quasimodo kills Frollo, then starves to death at Esmeralda's graveside). (A strong second place for inappropriate cartoonification is Don Bluth's Anastasia.)

But if that worked... Perhaps the world is ready for Disney's Romeo and Juliet. Or Wuthering Heights. Or Frankenstein...

It's not what you think

You're thinking, yeah, yeah, seen it before. It isn't that hard to do. You select an area and desaturate the color in that area. It seems to be a lot of folks' favorite image editing trick. But that's not what's going on here.

If you follow the link back to her Flickr photostream, you'll see several other angles on the same people, including one taken for the San Francisco Chronicle. It's a gray Santa suit, a gray wig, gray body paint, and gray contact lenses. you have to get really close in to see the only color she couldn't cover, the pink corners of her eyes.

Awesome.

What's wrong with this picture?

Is it Power Girl's ever-expanding breasts? No, that's a long-accepted part of the character. Is it her fluctuating Kryptonian breastal vent? Let's face it, if it weren't for that, PG wouldn't get any press at all. Is it her camel toe seam? Sadly, no, she's had that for a while too.

Isn't it obvious? Power Girl is crosseyed. You're all looking at the silly window and haven't noticed that Amanda Conner can't draw PG's face.

I'd read it

Just in time for me to post as a reminder where this blog's name came from. A cool sketch (just one among many) by "Doc" Shaner.

I love this stuff

Meet Miss Miracle and Big Bard.

Sometimes you don't need a reason to do a gender swap story, you just do it.
